A Message from our Member at Large Paulette Nipper

My history with the DBE and my 60 years of life in the US is very simple really.

I was a Charter Member of the Rugby Chapter in Tennessee and Vice President!

For my contributions to the Chapter I was given a life membership at a very nice luncheon attended by Anne Mitcher, National President and Elaine Caughman, the Southern District Organiser.
I served almost five years to Her Majesties Service as a member of the Womans Land Army. Mostly in Hampshire England.
I was discharged in 1949 from Winchester, Hampshire and was married in London (Camberwell) in 1950 to a US citizen from Knoxville Tennessee.

Mr. Nipper was in internship at Maudsley Hospital in London (I was not one of his patients).
Upon returning to the US Mr. Nipper became an FBI agent for ten years. 3 Boys were born under G.E. Hoover's reign.
New York, Washington DC and Baltimore were our homes. Wanting to get back to"The Hills" W.A. Nipper received a PHD in Psychology from the University ofTennessee and practised in the Oak Ridge School system for 20 years.

I taught French for 17 years at St. Mary's School in Oak Ridge, as well as Sub for the Public Schools.
I recorded Classical Novels for the Blind at the University of Tennessee.

Upon our retirement we moved to Virginia Beach, and bought a cottage by the sea "Sea Pines Cottage"
My Husband passed away in 1996 and I sold the cottage, moved to a resort retirement Centre called Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay, where for the past eight years I have enjoyed life.

I am still a member of the "Master Swimmers Team and having two pools on the "Plantation", swimming the required 3 miles a week is easy.

There are 750 residents here and 39 of us play golf, and croquet. (Not your Grand Mother's Croquet)
We have tournaments at Williamsburg V.A. and tea at the Williamsburg Inn (Nice).
We also have classes on "Dance Oriental", "Eastern Dancing" or "Belly Dancing" and our oldest dancer is 93!
We entertain the "Old Folks" at different retirement homes.
My best wishes go to all in the DBE in Tennessee.
Paulette E Nipper.
